Darkness Rising

Chapter 6: Deep Into Nature
Scene Two "Enough Already!"

ancient_ruins.jpg

The party, Velora mostly, is getting fed up with the Plane of Nature. It seems that their mission has been diverted too many times and they keep hitting dead ends when trying to accomplish just a single, simple task. After embarking into the ruined sanctuary, they discover things best left alone, but things that shed light upon a greater understanding about the elves and how they spent their time on the Plane of Nature 3000 years ago. A trip to the western sanctuary seems to be in order to maybe get off this plane all together, and praying at the repaired statue of Obun in hopes of a similar effect. Orias is still asleep if that says anything.

Making new friends out of a lizardfolk tribe…battling a t-rex, and making their way to Obun’s Sanctuary to let Leyo complete his pilgrimage. Oh yeah, getting Orias out of his slumber too. Wraiths stand in the way at the sanctuary, but a well placed turn undead and Sorannon’s smiting skills allow the party a reprieve for a moment to get inside the shrine’s entrance.

During two separate rests, the party is set upon by allosaurus (dinosaurs)….like thrice. After the series of confrontations, the party escapes to higher ground where they leave off to finish their rest without interruption. That’s the whole adventure this week…just lots of allosaurus! They leveled last adventure too, making everyone level 4…so they are about half way to level 5 now. Looks like about 4 more days to Obun’s Sanctuary.

Scene One "Awww...Flowers, You Shouldn't Have"

fire_flowers.jpg

A orshian shows up to town after the formorian showdown, confronting the party about their removal of fire flower from their turf. In exchange for assisting him, Leyo the orshian agrees to let the party keep some fire flower if they will assist him on a sojourn to his god’s santuary so he may leave an offering. It is also stated that this place is immune to the reaches of the fey, including any of their powers, which lead the party to believe that the effects upon Orias might end. They agree to his terms and set off for Orsh. Once in Orsh, they realize that Leyo is a blacksmith and armorer, and that he may be able to custom fit an existing set of platemail for Sorannon. They head out the next day for Obun’s Sanctuary. On the trail they are attacked during the night by allosaurus (dinosaurs), during their rest.

The party is woken by the residents of Aeshar only to realize that the last mission they completed for the unseelie was in fact a dream. Sadly they are unable to awake Orias, so they leave him there with Tangina. Belmirra is still alive! They seek out the cleric in Aesharia to see if he can do anything, he cannot. They seek the wizard in Qara, and he also cannot do much for them but leads them in their mission against the formorians. They succeed, but realize that not having Orias there made it much harder. Velora, in the future will be shambling mound rather than a triceratops and now she needs a cure for the curse of the evil eye one of the formorians gave her. Earlier, they collect some fireflower root for an alchemist they traded theit bracers of archery with in exchange for potions. During their collecting, they are spotted by some orshians (a cat-like race of humanoids) and turn and run away back to Qara. End scene.

Chapter 4: The Plane of Nature
Scene One "Menagerie and Mayhem"

dark_uni.jpg

After receiving word of what the three trials entail, the party decides to take on the most difficult in their opinion, making headway with both the seelie and unseelie courts, by completing a task for each side.

The Test of Will- make an alliance with both the seelie and unseelie courts.
The Test of Reflex- take on elemental form and defeat other elementals, retrieving an elemental icon, without falling of the cliffs of madness.
The Test of Fortitude- live as a creature of the fey, and defeat the formorians.

The group has seemed to have lost their halfling companion, only to find out that he has communed with a menagerie of creatures who tell him of his race’s history, and that he is the last of his kind, a shapeshifter from the Plane of Nature. Orias transforms from a rabbit back into halfling form, but they accept him still and the party carries on with their task at hand.
The party searches for quite some time, but after a crazy amount of seeking has finally found a treant that will send them on a mission to catch a fish and bring it back to him, to gain favor with the seelie court. A fashioning of a fishing pole, two ferrets, a mermaid, a woodcutter, a medusa, and a girl child later the group finds their fish and return it to the treant’s grove for the first half of their medallion. Now onto the unseelie.
Upon reaching their destination, sent fro the druid circle, the rescued girl child turns into a hellish demon, but is sent away back to her plane by a black unicorn who was met earlier on the party’s path. Later finding out it was Gaedeon himself, the group takes his advice and heads down a different path, leading them to the entrance of the unseelie city. Two sets of satyr guards, an oversized satyr, and the queen of the unseelie later, they receive thier mission to head through a portal leading back to Aeshar, the city they started in. They need to save the life of Sorannon’s aunt, who turns out is burning up in her tree-house along with most of the rest of the city. It is all a ruse, as his aunt dies by a frost elemental sent by Maeve, the queen of the unseelie, part of a prophecy to pass along Bellmora’s powers. The illusion ends and the group are ported back to Aeshar far from the unseelie city, medallion in hand a reward from Maeve for completing her task.
Back in Aeshar, they are met with sadness by Ketari and Tangina, but it is explained that all of this was part of the two tasks, and it is all part of a prophecy passed down by Feylira herself.

Our adventurers are informed of a visiting emissary from the north, and introduced to the new rogue of their party, Orias who apparently has a reason for heading into the sewers himself, in search of his familiar Oleander a pseudodragon. The team take advantage of the diversion of the visiting Horderian emissary and slip into the sewers with their new halfling friend in the lead. After looking down a number of tunnels, leading to dead ends, they find the entrance into the lair of the cult. In front of the hidden entrance a headless skeleton lays at the wall, on his person a small pouch containing two small gems and a key. They open the door and are forced to dispatch two priests caught off guard. Dispatching the two of them and a…….blood elemental….in the next room, the party come out a ring and two daggers richer, as well as reaching level 3. Sorannon begins feeling a calling, which makes him regret coming into the sewers before gaining a bit more experience on the trail.

Chapter 2: The Desert
Scene Two "From Training Days to Ogre Slays"

images.jpg
The party is tested in the desert, trained for battles to come. They gain some experience and move to level two. Back inside the complex Veronica identifies the wineskin, and dagger which Velora had previously obtained, and the longsword of Sorannon’s father. They are found to be very useful. Sorren tells them that a religious relic has been taken back to Rosegarden, and now some knights have become sickened, it is believed that the relic is of Sorvhaina. The adventurers are sent to investigate a disturbance in Willow Riding within the Skalban Peninsula, while the ancient scouts look into the sickness in Rosegarden. Once in the Skalban Peninsula, the party travels south towards Willow Riding, coming across two separate ogres within thier two day travel, they are rewarded with a pristine pelt from each ogre who were wearing them as loincloths, a red one and a white one. Possibly a frost wolf and maybe a hell hound? Once in town, they meet up with Obion inside the Cracked Chalice Inn and learn that his small room is much more than it seems. He shows them a magical map with a schematic of the sewers below the city itself which contains an entrance to a hideout to some evil cultists who worship the goddess of the dark, Sorvhaina. The party is to slip inside the sewers, defeat what they come across, and bring the cultist ring-leader to justice. The group then rest for the night, expected to meet up with Aramice Mentor the next day, a trusted ally of Obion who will get the party into the sewers below, hopefully unnoticed.

Chapter 2: The Desert
Scene One "A Trek to the Ancients"

shade_of.jpg

The party begins their day by starting their travels to T’alos. Along the way they are set upon by bandits, and an unlikely ally shows up starting to rip out hearts and sap life forces. The shadow then turns on Sorannon, but leaves instead of harming the party. It is starting to take form. The stop in T’alos seems fruitful, as the party meets a few new people and has a couple magic items identified, buying camels, and getting supplies. Leaving out the next day, towards the end, the group finds a cave, inside what appears to be water. Velora knows the water is tainted, and rummages around the small cave to find an elven body. He wrote danger on the wall, and Velora takes his left-behind shiny bright dagger as a souvenir. They escape the cave quickly when they realize the place is a trap. Outside a skin of blood is found in the corner, there was a party going on here, at least 7 people and mounts, maybe a fight. Moving on, a few more days later and into the red sands of the Lands of the Sun, our brave heroes notice the grand dwarven construction lining the mountains, in large metal door-work. A large section of white sand fashioned in front of the towering 100 foot high doors in a half circle upon the ground. A gong is to the left of the doors. Moving on they come across an identical setup nearly a daylater. The last day, they see a different setup leading inside the mountain. When they enter the patch of white sand, they are instantly transported to a jungle-like arboretum, and met by an ancient female who takes them into a living space to meet up with Sorren DuVlas, who is out traveling. They are introduced to the woman as Veronica, and she introduces them to Gregor another ancient. Sorren comes along shortly, takes the heart, leads them to a chamber down a dark passage to the body of a dead vampire. His chest is opened up. With Sorren and Sorannon’s blood the heart comes to life and Sorren talks the reluctant Sorannon into awakening his dead father Kanen with the heart. It is discovered that there is a child-like vampire possibly at work here who might be involved in the heart-ripping and attacks on the Illyndyr estate, and the shrine of Ladea. Kanen awakens hungry and thirsty, recognizing his son, he tries to be released. The group realizes he is still quite evil and retire back to the living area to plan out their next move.
